Legislation to make it easier to access medicinal cannabis will be introduced to Parliament today.
The Bill would amend the Misuse of Drugs Act, allowing people with certain medical conditions to access the drug, or even grow it for personal use.
MS sufferer Dr Huhana Hickey told Mike Hosking the new legislation isn't too restrictive.
"The main issue is of course cost and so unless they address cost we are going to just have a policy that most won't be able to pick up."
In fact, Dr Hickey believes the legalisation of medicinal cannabis could benefit our economy.
Dr Hickey says there is a good chance the Bill could do more than just help sick people.
"We probably need to be looking at developing our own products in New Zealand at a much cheaper rate and even off-selling overseas."
