The Police Association believes the different level of training at police college is what's caused the consternation between some senior cops and new recruits.
There are growing concerns from some senior officers that millennial recruits are reluctant to stand on cordons, go to sudden deaths or get out of their patrol cars because it's too dangerous.
Police Association president Chris Cahill told Mike Hosking it's a more adult-learning environment now, where officers are trained to be personable and empathetic.
"People that are going out now represent all New Zealanders. They can get out there and talk amongst different groups in the community and actually associate with them."
Chris Cahill says he has no concerns about new recruits, and they're keen to get out there once they graduate.Â
