New Zealand should be prepared for another significant earthquake within the next decade.
Geonet has released its 10 year quake forecast and says there is a 30 percent chance of a quake measuring magnitude seven or higher.
GNS seismologist Dr Matt Gerstenberger told Mike Hosking the quake could strike anywhere and the message is simple ... be prepared.
"We are expected to be in a heightened time of activity now and that's expected to go on for some time. So, really everybody should be thinking about their plans.
"A magnitude 7.0 or a magnitude 7.8, that's a very large earthquake that's going to affect a large region when it occurs."
