Hiking is considered a dangerous activity by a major US university, in what some say is PC culture gone mad.
Pennsylvania State University's outdoors club is being disbanded after its activities, including hiking, backpacking, and running, were deemed too risky.
Outing Club president Christina Platt says they worked with the university to improve safety for over a year and followed all instructions.
"They actually assessed every single club sport which at Penn State is seventy-eight different club sports, they implemented sanctions on, I think, twenty clubs and disbanded three, which included the outing club."
Platt says they have been working with the university to figure out a way forward.
"The checkbox we want to check off is we want to maintain a presence on campus whether we can lead trips or not."
She says there were no incidents triggering the decision.
The caving and scuba clubs were also given the chop.
