A migrant rescue in the Mediterranean has helped reignite calls for national borders in Europe.
Hundreds of stranded migrants, who were denied entry into Italy and Malta, have been allowed to enter Spain to apply for asylum.
However, it has added to pressure on German chancellor Angela Merkel to restrict migration.
Europe correspondent Catherine Field, told Mike Hosking Merkel's coalition partners want migrants turned away if they've been denied asylum in other countries.
But the Chancellor disagrees.
"Merkel has really said you cannot do this, this means the whole of the EU freedom of movement within Schengen falls apart."
