A bronze statue of Te Kuiti's legendary local, Sir Colin Meads, is being unveiled today.

Crowds are expected to flock to the unveiling in the centre of town at 11am.

Former All Black and team-mate Bryan Williams will be there and told Mike Hosking he's looking forward to it.

"It's going to be a special occasion obviously, but tinged with a bit of sadness because of Sir Colin's health challenges that he's facing, but it should be a great day."

Williams said Richie McCaw has had a fantastic career, but the man he played alongside as a young man will always be his number one.

"For me, Pinetree was always an absolute hero, not only with his rugby but with the way he's lived his life. He's been a magnificent role model."
