No change needed to MMP.
That's according to outgoing Prime Minister Bill English, who's leading the biggest party in parliament into opposition.
But he said the result's not so exceptional that the the electoral system needs an overhaul.
"Right now we've just got to suck it up. It's the rules we play by and it's a legitimate result under those rules."
English has no plans to quit because he believes National's in a unique position, commanding 56 seats on the other side of the House.
"It's a problem for the Government cos they start with a significant proportion of New Zealanders who voted against them
"[They] don't want to see a major change in capitalism or the direction for New Zealand."
