The designer of the controversial Burkini said it shouldn't be politicised, because the swimsuit is not just for Muslim women.
Nice is the latest French town to ban the Burkini, which is said to overtly manifest adherence to religion.
Burkini designer Aheda Zanetti told Mike Hosking the swim suit, which includes pants, a rash top and an optional hood, is for everyone.
She said it was also worn by "non-Muslim women, other women, it doesn't matter what race, it doesn't matter why, it could be because of skin cancer they've had to go through."
Zanetti said the Burkini doesn't refer to the Islam religion and French authorities have got it wrong.
Burkini bans in France have been causing strife for police.
French Correspondent Catherine Field said so far interpreting the scope of the bans has been hard for police.
"It would seem that police are interpreting the ruling as applying to any woman wearing leggings, long sleeved tunics, and more importantly - a headscarf at the beach."
