A bacon and egg pie has been judged the country's best.
Patrick Lam of Patrick's Pie Group Gold Star Bakery in Tauranga has cleaned up at the Bakels Supreme Pie Awards.
He's beaten more than 500 other entrants to take his fifth Supreme title since 2003.
The awards were presented at the SkyCity Convention Centre last night.
Lam told Mike Hosking the secret to a successful pie is not scrimping.
"I think they all combine together. First you have to have a good pastry, and also the filling must be not too dry and nice to eat - I think that's the way."
