Farmers are rubbishing claims by animal welfare groups that they're mistreating their sheep.

SAFE is backing American group PETA, which is urging consumers not to buy wool products.

It claims farmers' industry practices are cruel to sheep and lambs.

Federated Farmers meat and fibre chairman Miles Anderson is dismissive.

He said it's frustrating that lobby groups can put out false information and not be held accountable.

Miles Anderson joined Larry Williams Drive this afternoon to talk it all through, saying PETA's claims are "nonsense".
