National MP Jacqui Dean is pushing to have a minimum three-year expiry date on all gift cards.

Dean says the six to 2-month expiry dates commonly used by New Zealand retailers is not long enough, and one in five cards will lapse before it's used.

Her Bill would prohibit the sale of gift cards with expiry dates of less than three years.

Retail NZ spokesperson Greg Harford joined Larry Williams to discuss the issue.
