Dr Holly Thorpe: How to attract younger people to the Olympics

A Kiwi is advocating for skateboarding, surfing, sport climbing and even parkour to be included in the Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee is trying to get younger people more involved in watching the Olympics.

Currently the average viewer age is 55.

Waikato University's Holly Thorpe has just presented her research on the topic in Switzerland, and told Larry Williams younger people want to see the sports they're into as part of the games.

"The core of these sports is not about competition, it's about self-expression, it's about creativity, so there's something different there that young people are connecting with."
