The Government has been accused of contradicting itself over whether it consulted with the oil and gas industry before delivering its blow of no more permits for offshore exploration.

ACT leader David Seymour says that Energy Minister Megan Woods told TVNZ's Q and A on the weekend that suggestions she had not consulted the industry were not true.

But in response to a written question he lodged at Parliament, he told Larry Williams that her office confirmed "no formal consultation was undertaken" with the body representing the sector, PEPANZ.

"So you've got a Minister who is saying one thing on national TV and quite another thing when questioned through Parliament."

Woods was not able to comment on the allegations tonight.
