More support for the idea of Government funding for vaping.

The Maori Party wants taxpayers to subsidise the cigarette alternative in a bid to stamp out smoking.

Zoe Hawke, national tobacco control advocacy general manager for Hapai Te Hauora told Rachel Smalley tax revenue from cigarettes should be used to subsidise vaping, like patches or gum.

She said vaping is a promising option for the country to achieve smokefree status by 2025.

Ms Hawke said a lot of Maori want to give it a go.

She said they've tried patches and gum and it hasn't worked for them so they're looking for new innovative products that will help them quit smoking.
