A Hawke's Bay farmer is calling for more information on the cattle disease outbreak in the region.
Mycoplasma bovis was first reported in South Canterbury in July.
It's since moved to Winton in Southland, and now for the first time, has been found in the North Island in the Hastings district.
Hawke's Bay farmer William Butler told Rachel Smalley everyone is concerned and they have been left in the dark by the Ministry for Primary Industries.
"MPI I think have got to come out and be a bit more straight up and down and tell us where about these things are. Hawke's Bay is a fairly big area."
Butler said the Hawke's Bay sale is on today, and many farmers will be looking to buy stock.
However, the Hastings District Council said it is working to support dairy farmers.
Mayor Sandra Hazlehurst said the Council has sprung into action.
"Any requests should be going straight to the Ministry but we as a Council and our Royal Community Board are there to support as well."
Federated Farmers National President Katie Milne said the disease spreads through close contact, and farmers need to protect their animals.
"The best practice around this is to put up a buffer like a temporary electric fence reel or permanent if you've got time to do that between your boundary and the neighbour's boundary."
