Mangere Budgeting Services CEO Darryl Evans told Rachel Smalley it's atrocious and sad that people are getting loans for rent and food.
He said there are better options, like food grants from Work and Income or going to the Credit Union.
"On a daily basis now we hearing that many of our families are one or two weeks away from being evicted, borrowing money is not the first option, for us it's the last option."
