Locals are anxious for answers, as they wait to learn the future of the Manawatu Gorge.

Transport Minister Simon Bridges is set to make an announcement on the slip-damaged Gorge at 9am. 

Tararua District Mayor Tracy Collins said regional growth is being hurt, and towns are missing out on tourism revenue.

She told Nadine Higgins she hopes Mr Bridges will shed some light on situation, which is becoming costly for locals.

"The stress factor of always not knowing. You know it's eating in to your everyday time. there's extra money going into fuel. Just that financial stress, it's really hard to plan."

She said they're waiting to hear how bad the latest slips are.

"Some of the solution, actually three of them still involve the gorge."
