The United States remains hopeful next month's summit with North Korea will go ahead.

Kim Jong-un is threatening to pull out of the historic peace talks over America's demands that the North abandon its nuclear weapons.

Donald Trump says it's unclear if the summit is going ahead as planned in Singapore on June the 12th.

But 1 News US correspondent, Rebecca Wright, told Kate Hawkesby it's more likely than not.

"Analysts here don't think that Kim Jong Un will cancel the summit altogether, rather that he might be trying to change the expectations around what might be achieved."

Still both leaders are showing are showing restraint ahead of their historic summit next month.

Donald Trump has responded with a measured statement rather than an angry tweet.

And Wright says Kim Jong Un is also being as diplomatic as possible.
