The man who posted a video of himself on Facebook killing an elderly man shot and killed himself after a "brief pursuit" by Pennsylvania State Police officers.
Steve Stephens was accused of shooting Robert Godwin Sr, 74, on a Cleveland footpath on Sunday before fleeing in a car and uploading a video of the murder to Facebook, becoming the subject of a nationwide manhunt.
1News US correspondent Rebecca Wright told Nadine Higgins police say he shot himself after a brief police pursuit.
"Police say that Steve Stephens was spotted by as member of the public and pursued for a short time by police."
Wright said Facebook now faces questions about why no one reported the video for hours.
"Mark Zuckerberg said that Facebook will need to do better, but how they do that with the social media site with two billion users is the question that's facing them at the moment."
Stephens, who had no prior criminal record, was not suspected in any other killings, Cleveland officials had said. Cleveland police were due to give more details at a news conference on Tuesday afternoon.
