A clear message from Melania Trump that her politics is fundamentally different to the politics of her husband.

The First Lady played a key role in persuading Donald Trump to sign an executive order ending the policy of family separations on the Mexican border.

One day on, Trump is speaking at a campaign rally reiterating his hardline immigration stance to supporters.

The BBC's Nick Bryant told Kate Hawkesby that Melania has been spending the day very differently, with a tour of a children's detention centre in Texas.

"And she asked questions of the people running that centre that any mother might ask 'when will the children be reunited with their parents, what conditions they being kept in'."

He says the First Lady is upstaging her husband, and winning public support.

"She has made herself a central figure, calling publicly for a country that governs with heart which was seen as a criticism of her husband's zero tolerance policy."
