The Cancer Society would have liked to have seen the Health Minister's new plans for health targets, before scrapping the old ones.
Dr David Clark says they've been axed because DHBs were focused on arbitrary targets - and the Government's now working on new, more effective reporting measures.
Cancer Society chief executive Mike Kernaghan told Kate Hawkesby there needs to be a way to understand and monitor performance.
"There is a new cancer strategy that is being developed, as I understand it, currently by the Ministry and the Minster, it will be interesting to see what comes out of that and what measures they're planning to put in place to look at everything they are doing."
