The Prime Minister is expected to announce a minor reshuffle today.

Bill English will name replacements for Foreign Minister Murray McCully and Education Minister Hekia Parata, who are both due to step down from their roles next Monday.

Right-wing commentator Matthew Hooton told Nadine Higgins Gerry Brownlee has earned the foreign affairs portfolio.

"He's done a good diplomatic job as Defence Minister and it's a difficult time in world affairs, and a senior person in the Foreign Minister's job is needed."

Hooton said Nicky Wagner, who currently holds the Christchurch Central seat, could also be a big winner in the reshuffle.

Wagner is also the Minister of Customs, Minister for Disability Issues, and acts as an associate minister for a number of portfolios.

Hooton said Ms Wagner is likely to be tasked with leading the Christchurch rejuvenation project, and enter cabinet.

"She has been Gerry Brownlee's understudy for a long period of time now. She's turned Christchurch entral into a National seat."

Political editor Barry Soper said there will be no big surprises.

He said the two people that have been talked about most for the two vacant roles are Jonathan Coleman for Foreign Affairs and Nikki Kaye for education.

Soper said that's talk not just around Parliament but by Bill English himself.
