More than a third of New Zealand's adult online population have been affected by cybercrime in the past year.

A new report released by Norton shows in total, Kiwis lost more than $177 million.

The director of Norton's Consumer Business Unit for the Pacific, Mark Gorrie told Kate Hawkesby millennials are the most targeted group.

He says it's because of their practices.

Twenty five percent of them are using the same password in multiple accounts.

"Sharing their passwords with other people, at 66 per cent, not using security software, 49 per cent. They're the basics and if you're not doing those well you're typically more targeted."
