A second Scottish Independence referendum is officially on the table and it looks like it will go ahead.

LISTEN ABOVE: Rachel Smalley talks to political commentator Lesley Riddoch, about the second referendum.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the times since the last referendum - just three years ago - have changed.

She believes people would now choose to break away from the UK in order to stay in the EU.

Political commentator Lesley Riddoch told Rachel Smalley between the Scottish National Party and the Greens, there's majority support for it.

"Unless there's some terrible flu epidemic that only hits independent supporting members of the Scottish parliament I think it is a formality. Though it'll be an interesting debate."

The referendum has to be approved by the Scottish Parliament by next week.
