Federated Farmers claims their members are already acting to make our rivers swimmable.

It comes as they sign a pledge to improve the quality of our waterways, alongside other farming groups, representing more than 80 percent of the country’s pastoral land.

Federated Farmers president Katie Milne told Andrew Dickens farmers won't just wait until they're compelled to do something about water quality.

"We've changed a lot of thinking in the last 10 to 15 years. The practices of the past have changed, now some have changed faster than others and that's part of the key is to drive it faster."
