New Zealand beekeepers have found themselves in a sticky situation, with poor weather conditions affecting honey production.

LISTEN ABOVE: Nadine Higgins talks to the chief executive of Apiculture NZ, Karin Kos, about the tough honey production season.

Canterbury bee keepers say this season has been the worst in more than three decades.

Chief executive of Apiculture New Zealand Karin Kos told Nadine Higgins the wet weather from October through to March means less flowering.

"We know that these things can happen, it's very challenging for them this year, but there was a strong season last year, so that has supported the down-turn for some."

One Canterbury beekeeper has had to borrow millions of dollars to get by.
