An expert says the impact of late night gaming on children's performance at school is only getting worse.

Concerns have been mounting over a popular online game called Fortnite, which has been labelled addictive.

Internet safety expert, John Parsons, says issues arise when kids are allowed to use technology before bed.

He says told Kate Hawkesby he's spoken to students who stay up as late as 2am on various devices.

"When they turn up to school they're feeling dowdy and sick in the stomach because they've been up on technology [and] that does not prepare the child for an educational environment."

Mr Parsons says children as young as seven are using technology late at night.

"Their phone is in their bedroom and then they get a text message at one in the morning which encourages them to go to watch that video their friend just sent them which leads to more progressive use."
