Angela Merkel may have to achieve the impossible, just to stop her government from collapsing.
The German Chancellor has begun emergency talks with other EU leaders, to strike a deal on sharing out migrants more evenly across the continent - but they look to have failed before they've even started.
Most European migrants have ruled out any kind of substantive agreement.
But Europe correspondent Gavin Grey told Kate Hawkesby her coalition partners are threatening to force an election if a deal isn't struck.
"She needs a deal really to prevent her coalition government from falling apart though I don't think anybody is holding their breath thinking this is going to come up with some amazing conclusion."
Grey said they've given her a seemingly impossible task.
"We're getting words like responsibility and solidarity but we're getting no hard and fast facts. Indeed not everyone is attending this - Hungary and Poland haven't even turned up."
