A technology expert said digital literacy education is vital, to feed the needs of a changing job market.
Education Minister Nikki Kaye has announced digital literacy classes will soon be mandatory from Year One to 10.
Tech Futures Lab chief executive Frances Valintine told Rachel Smalley an important pillar of digital literacy is what's known as "computational thinking".
"How do you understand this world we are going into which is getting increasingly more defined by artificial intelligence and automation."
Valintine said digital skills are vital in our changing world.
"There is a job market out there where we cannot fill the jobs in the technology sector, not just here in New Zealand but globally.
