People are being urged to make their views on euthanasia known.
The End of Life Choice Bill passed its first reading in Parliament last night, with MP's voting in favour 76 to 44.
It will now go to the Justice Committee, which will deliberate over the bill and accept public submissions for the next nine months.
Act Party leader David Seymour - who put it forward - told Rachel Smalley people who want choice should make sure they make submissions to the Select Committee.
"Because we know that there will be a campaign of fear, uncertainty and doubt as to the bill."
Seymour has made a deal with New Zealand First that there'll be a referendum on the bill.
