It's thought Scottish independence would be disastrous for Westminster.
First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is indicating the country's likely to have another vote next year on whether it wants to stay in the UK.
Former advisor Campbell Gunn told Rachel Smalley the United Kingdom could be left in tatters.
"I think it would be disastrous for the Conservative government. I don't see how Theresa May could survive if Scotland voted to leave the UK."
The independence move has been on the agenda since the Brexit vote last year, in which the majority of Scots voted to remain in the European Union.
Mr Gunn said people in Europe aren't happy with the way the Brexit vote occurred.
"I think Scotland would be accepted into the EU. I don't think there's a problem with that. Most of the mood music coming out of the EU is sympathetic to Scotland."
