West Coasters are preparing for their second big storm in a matter of weeks.
High winds and storm surges from Gita appear to be the biggest threat there today.
Westland mayor Bruce Smith told Kate Hawkesby people have until midday to make final preparations.
"People have still got time to ensure that they've got fuel, batteries, food, water. They've got time to go and check their neighbours, you know if they've got someone elderly down the road go and talk to them."
