There's concern schools aren't balancing academic achievement with a child's personal growth.

A study by ASG and Australia's Monash University found that half of all parents are concerned kids aren't being taught things like how to manage stress, or their time in front of screens.

CEO of ASG education programmes John Velegrins told Rachel Smalley it was important they focus on social development, not just academic development.

He said if the curriculum and the quality of teaching is running well, but a child is not socially and emotionally capable, learning outcomes will be impacted quite significantly.

Velegrins said different social issues come up in a school environment.

"Parents are saying 'well look, we don't expect the total lead on this, but the school needs to play its part in helping to identify any issues, and also try and deal with them, but it truly is a partnership'."
