Outrage over verdicts

08/06/2006 18:20:04

There is outrage that the man who put an axe through the Prime Minister's electorate office window has been found guilty of sedition.

An Auckland District Court jury has found Timothy Selwyn guilty on one charge of publishing with seditious intent and not guilty on another.

He earlier pleaded guilty to a charge of conspiring to commit wilful damage for putting an axe through Helen Clarks' Mount Albert office window in November 2004.

Media commentator and Timothy Selwyn supporter Bomber Bradbury says the verdicts signal a sad day for freedom of speech in New Zealand.

He says Tim Selwyn's actions were a protest and there was no intent to overthrow the Government or burn down Parliament.
