Meeting underway to sort out health subsidies

30/05/2006 12:04:03

GPs and health officials are sitting down in Wellington to thrash out a solution to an argument over increased subsidies for doctors' visits.

They are being raised for 45 to 65-year-olds from July.

District health boards are keen to make sure doctors pass on the subsidies to patients, with GPs being told they will only get the extra money if they agree to ask permission before increasing fees.

That has angered doctors, who say it is unfair and could force some of them out of business.

Victor Klap of the Independent Practitioners Association Council of New Zealand say there are a number of issues to thrash out.
