Konia healthcheck before sentencing

The state of health of convicted murderer David Konia will be investigated before sentencing.

Konia has been found guilty of the brutal stabbing of Ted Ferguson and Margaret Waldin in Mr Ferguson's flat on the May 27 last year. Justice Ronald Young told the court following the convictions further material would be collated looking into the state of Konia's health.

Konia's lawyer Fergus Stedman also requested a psychiatric report ahead of the sentencing on the June 30.

Meanwhile, there has been a heartfelt thank-you to police from the families of the murdered pensioners.

Mr Ferguson's daughter Marie says the guilty verdict is closure but it's still heartbreaking and doesn't bring them back.

She says it has been a tough year but the her family have the verdict they needed thanks to the police's long hard hours. Marie Ferguson says the family will now try to move on.
