Dunedin remembers AIDS victims

18/05/2006 12:20:02

Dunedin is being urged to come together for the 23rd Annual Aids Candlelight Memorial this Sunday.

Candles will be lit around the world in remembrance of those who have died from Aids-related illnesses.

Impetus will also be on a commitment to stop the HIV virus.

Last year New Zealand experienced the largest number ever of new HIV diagnoses, with 183 people testing positive.

Dunedin's event coordinator Lisa Te Pana is hoping for widespread public support.

The service will be held at St Paul's Cathedral in the Octagon, and begins at seven o'clock.
