Brash will leave Civil Union Act alone

24/08/2005 14:56:03

Don Brash has told Grey Power he will not reverse the Civil Union Act if National gets into government.

He has been quizzed about his views on the controversial social legislation at a meeting in Kapiti.

Dr Brash was there to sell National's tax policy but was instead inundated with questions about his stance on homosexuality, family values and prostitution.

His refusal to commit to scrapping civil unions and prostitution laws prompted murmurs from the crowd.

Dr Brash explained he has no problem with gay people formalising their relationships.

He says he switched his vote on the civil union final reading because he believes a referendum is more appropriate.

Meanwhile Helen Clark is campaigning in the central North Island today, visiting Tokoroa, ahead of launching Labour's tourism policy in Taupo.
