Bishop of Polynesia to take vows today

01/08/2010 8:40:01

The Anglican Church's new Bishop of Polynesia takes his vows in Fiji this morning, promising to listen to the people.

The Right Reverend Winston Halapua replaces the late Archbishop Jabez Bryce, who held the title for 35 years. He is a Tonga-born Fiji citizen, but has been away from the country for 14 years.

Bishop Halapua says the call-up left him feeling humble. He says it is a privilege to be called home.

Bishop Halapua is promising to stand alongside the Fijian people and be open to a dialogue on the nation's politics.
