All Blacks on bench

Two of the most popular players in New Zealand rugby from the past decade or so will start tonight's Super 14 clash at AMI Stadium riding the pine.

Dan Carter has been named in the Crusaders reserves, while former All Black and Blues first five Carlos Spencer has been named on the Lions bench.

Carter says Spencer has often had a tough time from the Christchurch crowds, but that has brought out the best in him. Carter says when the heat goes on him, Spencer usually lifts his game.

Kick off is at 5.30pm. The Highlanders entertain the Sharks from 7.35 at Carisbrook.
