Midcourter Maree Bowden will captain the Canterbury Tactix in the upcoming ANZ Championship.

Bowden takes over from former Silver Ferns captain Julie Seymour who retired at the end of their last campaign.

Tactix coach Helen Mahon-Stroud says the decision was straight forward. She says Bowden has been very loyal to Canterbury netball and it was a natural selection.

Mahon-Stroud says Bowden can be just as good in a leadership role as Seymour. She says Bowden does step in to big shoes, but having played with Seymour a lot, she will be well versed.

The Tactix open the 2010 season against the Central Pulse on March 22.
