Orca dine out on sharks

09/03/2010 12:56:01

A pod of up to twelve Orca is feeding in and around the Marlborough Sounds this week.

Long-time resident Anne Bigley Scott says a neighbour out boating watched a big bull Orca stun a large bronze whaler shark and nudge it toward his harem. A few moments later pieces of shark were seen floating by.

Ms Bigley Scott says Orcas eat stingrays like potato chips and there are a lot in Kenepuru this year.

DOC programme manager Mike Avis says the whales pack-hunt sharks.
