McKay gets test call-up

10/02/2010 15:36:01

A few weeks ago not too many people had heard of Wellington fast bowler Andy McKay.

Now the 29-year-old has been named as one of three new caps in the Black Caps' 13-man squad for next week's one off test against Bangladesh in Hamilton.

McKay says it is a stepping stone towards his ultimate goal, and it has been a great start so far. He says he definitely sees playing Australia as a benchmark, however he says at the moment it is just one game at a time.

Otago batsman Neil Broom and Central Districts opener Peter Ingram have also been selected for the first time. Test specialists Chris Martin, Tim McIntosh and BJ Watling also join the squad following tomorrow's final one-dayer in Christchurch.

Watling is thrilled to be back.

"I just wanted to be involved again and am looking forward to the test match. My form is good and I feel good at the crease, just haven't kicked on in the one-dayers, haven't got the big scores I would like to, but feeling good at the crease so I'm pretty happy."

The full squad is Vettori, Broom, Guptil,, Ingram, McCullum, MacIntosh, McKay, Martin, Patel, Southee, Taylor, Tuffey and Watling.
