Police investigating the murder of taxi driver Hiren Mohini are appealing to the Auckland Asian community.

The 39-year-old father of two died early on Sunday January 31, after being stabbed by a passenger

Police are seeking for information about a man whose indistinct image is on CCTV footage. He is carrying a bag blue bag with the "Dicon Aibi" logo on it.

Police have also revealed for the first time they are also looking for information about a distinctive, knitted, dark cap with a large white logo outlined with three circles.

Detective Senior Sergeant Hywel Jones says the cap has been undergoing forensic examination as it was found in Mt Eden with the bloodstained bag a day after the murder.

Mr Jones says they are appealing more strongly to the Asian communities in and around the Auckland CBD this week as many of those they canvassed over the weekend were not aware of Mr Mohini's murder.
