Three teams jockey for home semi in ODI comp

09/02/2010 9:08:01

Three teams will look to jockey for a home semi-final in the final round of the domestic one-day cricket competition today.

Auckland has sewn up first place but either Northern Districts, Central Districts or Canterbury can still claim second.

Northern's task is particularly difficult as they host Auckland in Whangarei, but a timely return to form for batsman Kane Williamson has Northern optimistic of booking a home semi. Williamson is averaging just over 96 from 7 innings and says he is feeling good after a slow start to the season.

"It was quite frustrating at the beginning of the season, but I keep working at my game and I guess as hard as you try, at the end of the day just watching the ball is the main thing."

Williamson says nullifying Scott Styris could be the key to his side's chances. He says Styris has had a great season, so shutting him down can give them some good momentum.

In today's other games Central is at home to Otago while Canterbury entertains Wellington.
