Sevens final goes to Fiji

06/02/2010 21:56:02

Fiji has beaten Samoa 19-14 in the Wellington rugby sevens final to claim its first win on this year's IRB circuit.

It is the Fijians' third title in Wellington, and their first since 2006.

Samoa trailed 19-7 with less than two minutes remaining, but scored quickly to come within five points and finished the match desperately close to the Fijian line.

Earlier, New Zealand was knocked out by Samoa 24-14 in the semifinal, and defending champions England went down to Fiji 28-19.

Fiji now trail New Zealand by just four points in the IRB series.
