28/11/2009 20:40:01

A six-year-old girl has died after being struck by falling equipment at a family touch rugby event in Auckland.

The incident occurred at Tamaki College in east Auckland.

Police say the girl was crushed when a scrum machine fell on her just after two o'clock this afternoon.

Inspector Willy Taylor says the girl's father was at the tournament but her mother wasn't.

The body has been removed for a post mortem examination.

The family has asked for privacy.
