Oscar for District 9?

28/11/2009 11:24:02

The Peter Jackson produced film "District 9" is being touted as a long-shot for the Oscars.

District 9 was made with a relatively small budget of $US30 million, but raked in more than $200 million at the Box Office.

A non-name actor, South African Sharlto Copley. had the lead role, and the film was also one of the critics' favourites.

There are now ten spots for nominees for best picture at the Academy Awards, and the film's production team think they are in with a chance.

The nominees for the next Academy Awards will be announced on Wednesday 3 February, and the winners will be announced on Monday 8 March (NZ dates).
