Maori media given preferential treatment

12/11/2009 15:00:04

Hone Harawira - NZ Herald

English language news organisations have been left listening at the door as the hui on Hone Harawira continues in Kaitaia.

He is currently fronting party colleagues over his abusive email and his sightseeing trip to Paris, undertaken when he was supposed to be on official business in Brussels.

Reports from the hui are that while all media were allowed to cover the welcome and around half an hour of the preliminary proceedings, only Te Karere and Maori TV's news service have been permitted to cover the entire deliberations.

It is understood party officials allowed the two Maori broadcasters in because it was felt they would cover proceedings with a positive slant and they had reservations about the coverage they would get from the major news organisations.
