Eight killed in Samoa bus crash

11/11/2009 14:28:05

Police in Samoa are hunting a bus driver who took off after he crashed and killed eight people.

The bus was travelling along a narrow coastal road just east of Apia when it left the road and rolled several times. Officers believe the driver was going too fast for the wet conditions.

Among the eight dead are a young mother and her six-month-old baby. Another 20 passengers were injured.

It is believed to be one of the island nation's worst ever road accidents.

It comes just two months after Samoa switched to driving on the left-hand side of the road.
